Dave’s Picks Vol. 60
The final release of the 2026 Dave’s Picks series is out today: two complete, previously unreleased shows from one of the Dead’s favorite rooms.
Spring ’84 in Hampton
Vol. 60 captures the Grateful Dead’s April 13 and 14, 1984 performances at Hampton Coliseum in Hampton, Virginia, the “Mothership” that hosted so many legendary Dead runs. Archivist David Lemieux calls both shows “magnificent.”
The recordings come from soundboard tapes made by longtime Dead sound engineer Dan Healy, who Lemieux says was “super-dialed-in” on these shows. Jeffrey Norman mastered them to HDCD at Mockingbird Mastering.
The Highlights
“Scarlet Begonias > Fire on the Mountain”
The April 13 second set opens with a pairing Lemieux calls “massive.” Listen for the echo Healy throws onto the vocals at the end of “Fire.”
“Morning Dew”
From the April 14 second set, a version Lemieux ranks among the best he’s heard from the band in the 1980s.
“Playing in the Band > Terrapin Station”
The April 14 second set opens with an epic pairing of two of the Dead’s longest-form songs, plus Brent Mydland’s rarely played “Don’t Need Love” before Drums.
