Pour One, Drop the Needle
The Grateful Dead and Delaware’s Dogfish Head Craft Brewery are back with the fourth volume of their On A Back Porch series, a Record Store Day Black Friday exclusive arriving Friday, November 27. Curated by Dead archivist David Lemieux and Dogfish Head founder Sam Calagione, the LP pulls six live tracks from the vault spanning four decades, from a 1969 Fillmore West night to the band’s spring 1990 tour.
The lead track will hit home for Philly Deadheads: Brent Mydland’s “Blow Away,” recorded July 7, 1989, at JFK Stadium, the Dead’s final show at the old South Philadelphia stadium.
Six Tracks from the Vault
Side A
Side B
That covers Pigpen’s “Mr. Charlie” from the Dead’s legendary Europe ’72 tour, Bob Weir taking on Bob Dylan’s “Ballad of a Thin Man” across the river in the Meadowlands, and Jerry’s “Loser” from the celebrated spring 1990 run.
What to Pour
“Blow Away” + Grateful Dead Juicy Pale Ale
Sam Calagione’s pick. The song is all about life’s peaks and valleys, and learning to go with the flow
, a perfect match for the relaxed spirit of enjoying music outdoors.
“Doin’ That Rag” + Grateful Dead Citrus Daydream Lager
David Lemieux’s pick, for a song whose lively, playful and sometimes, wandering lyrics may seem a bit nonsensical when examined in isolation
, but make perfect sense on a back porch.
