The Metaphysical Cowboy, Expanded
Ten years after its release, Bob Weir’s Blue Mountain, his first album of all-original material in more than 30 years and now his final solo record, returns on November 20 as an expanded deluxe edition. It adds previously unheard studio material from the sessions plus live recordings from Weir’s 2016–2017 Campfire Tour.
Co-produced with Josh Kaufman, the original album paired Weir with songwriter Josh Ritter, who co-wrote “Only a River,” “Gonesville,” “Lay My Lily Down” and the title track. Members of The National played on it, including Aaron and Bryce Dessner and Scott Devendorf.
“Peggy-O” · The Wiltern, Los Angeles · October 10, 2016
The first taste of the bonus material is a newly unearthed live take on the traditional ballad “Peggy-O,” a longtime Grateful Dead favorite descended from the old Scottish song “The Bonnie Lass o’ Fyvie.” It’s a cross-generational summit: Deadhead royalty, a modern guitar hero and indie-rock’s finest on one stage.
