The Grateful Dead Live presents
The Ace Radio Show
Live Music from Bob Weir & His Solo Projects
Every Monday Night · 9 PM – 2 AM ET
Every Monday night from 9 PM to 2 AM Eastern, The Ace Radio Show turns the dial to Bob Weir: five hours of live recordings from the bands and side projects he led outside the Grateful Dead. Named for Ace, his 1972 solo debut, the show celebrates the songs, the stretched-out jams and the nightly surprises that made Bobby one of rock’s most distinctive musicians.
A Musical Legend · 1947 – 2026
Bob Weir
Weir joined the Grateful Dead (then still the Warlocks) in 1965, at just 17, and went on to spend more than sixty years on the road. His rhythm guitar was unlike anyone else’s: chordal, unpredictable and built to weave around Jerry Garcia’s lead rather than sit underneath it. He wrote or sang Dead classics including “Sugar Magnolia,” “Playing in the Band,” “One More Saturday Night” and “Mexicali Blues.”
Bob Weir died on January 10, 2026, at age 78. His recorded live legacy is enormous, and The Ace Radio Show is here to keep it on the air, one Monday night at a time.
Beyond the Dead
The Solo Projects
Weir is best known for the Grateful Dead, but he never stopped building bands of his own. Each one showed a different side of him, and each one sounded different on stage night to night.
Kingfish
Mid-1970s
During the Dead’s 1975 touring break, Weir joined this Bay Area roots-rock band for a run of loose, high-spirited shows.
Bobby and the Midnites
1980s
A harder-edged, fusion-flavored band featuring heavyweights like drummer Billy Cobham and bassist Alphonso Johnson.
RatDog
Formed 1995
Weir’s longest-running solo band, growing out of his duo with bassist Rob Wasserman. Rock, blues and jazz, with long, exploratory improvisations.
Furthur
2009 – 2014
Co-led with Grateful Dead bassist Phil Lesh, Furthur dug deep into the Dead songbook with marathon, two-set shows.
Wolf Bros
2018 – on
A stripped-down trio with Don Was and Jay Lane that later grew into a larger ensemble with strings and horns, reimagining songs from across his career.

The Solo Albums
Ace · 1972
The show’s namesake. Backed largely by the Grateful Dead, it introduced “Playing in the Band,” “Cassidy” and “One More Saturday Night.”
Heaven Help the Fool · 1978
A polished, late-’70s rock record produced by Keith Olsen.
Blue Mountain · 2016
An introspective set of cowboy and Americana songs, written with Josh Ritter, drawing on Weir’s teenage summers working on a Wyoming ranch.
